 California's
pre-eminent healthcare foundation partnered with
Viewpoint Learning to develop a range of big-picture
reforms to the state's healthcare system that
both businesses and the public would be willing
to support, along with conditions for that support.
The first step in this ongoing project was a
set of Strategic
Dialogues with business and
healthcare leaders from around the state. Participants
in these dialogues established the larger context
for the subsequent citizen dialogues and identified
some long-term health care solutions that business
leaders would like to see tested with the public.
A statewide series of ChoiceDialogues then examined citizens' responses to four
very different choices that would lead to universal healthcare coverage in California.
The forthcoming report will look at how participants dealt with questions about
levels of coverage, who provides it, how it gets paid for, the role of public
health and how the system creates equity. Following the release of the report,
Viewpoint Learning and The California Endowment will coordinate a series of “Interactive
Briefings” for leaders in which the findings are presented as the basis for a
dialogue about next steps and implementation.
