OUR CLIENTS: Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
Viewpoint
Learning conducted a pilot series of ChoiceDialogues for one of the nation's foremost healthcare
foundations. Participants from around
the United States considered four approaches
to covering the more than 40 million uninsured
Americans, some of which made major changes to
our current healthcare system. In these ChoiceDialogues,
three groups from different regions of the United
States reached these markedly similar conclusions:
- A strong demand exists for universal access to affordable health coverage
- Americans consistently support a two-tiered healthcare system,
in which affordable basic coverage would be universally available and enhanced
coverage would be available to those willing to pay for it
- Coverage should be provided by a combination of private and public sector activity, with each providing checks and balances on the other
- Americans are willing to give up a degree of personal privacy to achieve an equitable and efficient system
- People are willing to pay more in taxes, premiums and co-pays if strong accountability measures are in place
This results from this project helped to inform RWJF's ongoing “Cover the Uninsured” campaign.
