OUR CLIENTS: City of Morgan Hill, Calif.
 Residents
of the Northern California city Morgan Hill will
soon face a difficult choice: cut essential services
(which residents oppose in polls) or raise additional
revenues (which, typically, they also oppose).
The City Council asked Viewpoint Learning to
design a community conversation that would bring
Morgan Hill's residents together to re-examine
what kind of city they want, what services they
expect, what they are willing to pay for and
under what conditions.
Viewpoint Learning designed a Meeting in a Box kit that leaders from Morgan Hill
have used in almost 30 conversations with citizens about the future direction
of the city.
Working with city leaders, we designed a streamlined set of choices
for the city's future. We also designed a detailed leader's guide and a video
that quickly lays out the critical information and the ground rules of dialogue.
The meetings are designed to be a very different kind of conversation than in
typical public meetings, which carefully avoid real discussion or learning in
favor of pre-scripted remarks.
