OUR CLIENTS: Stennis Fellows Program of the U.S. Congress

Stennis Congressional Fellows ProgramIn every Congress, the Stennis Center for Public Service (an independent agency established by Congress), conducts the Stennis Fellows Program for senior Congressional staff (chiefs of staff, committee staff directors, legislative directors etc.). The Stennis Center asked Viewpoint Learning to lead the design and conduct of this unique learning experience using highly customized versions of our Strategic Dialogue and Dialogue Essentials programs.

stennisSenators and Members of the House of Representatives may nominate one qualified senior staffer, and each class of 25 to 30 Stennis Fellows then is chosen in a competitive process from among the nominees. Each class includes balanced representation from both political parties and from the House and the Senate. The program is designed to enable Fellows to engage in a strategic dialogue across the boundaries of party and chamber, and to "look ahead" to explore emerging issues of governance, leadership and Congressional management.

One of the special features of the Stennis Fellows Program is that the Fellows set and pursue their own learning agenda within a core theme. The program invites nationally and internationally renowned experts to meet with the Stennis Fellows to stimulate their thinking. While learning from these outside authorities is a unique opportunity, even more important is the dialogue, learning and relationship-building that takes place across the boundaries of party and chamber.

At the conclusion of the program, Fellows prepare a report of their findings for the Congressional leadership and others interested in the future of the United States Congress. Some of these reports, and additional information on the program and the Stennis Center, can be found at the Stennis Fellows Program's Web site.
